Colombaio di Cencio
Colombaio di Cencio is located in Gaiole in Chianti, Tuscany, between Siena and Florence, within one of the five municipalities in the Chianti Classico production area. Known for its fertile, heterogeneous soils, this region enhances the structure of Chianti Classico wines. Founded in1993 by German entrepreneur Werner Ernest Wilhelm, the winery quickly gained recognition, especially for its Supertuscan wine “II Futuro” which has won the “Three Glasses” award multiple times. In 2018, Colombaio di Cencio was acquired by Fontanafredda, a historic Barolo producer, who maintained a classic winemaking style using Sangiovese grapes in purity.
The winery’s 25 hectares of vineyards are managed sustainably and located at 280 to 480 meters above sea level. The vineyards are in three sub-areas: Cornia, Montelodoli, and Vinci, cultivating various grapes, including Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
